Familiprix

Familiprix was the first network of affiliated pharmacies to dare to be 100% dedicated to health.

It is currently the only banner in Québec to fully belong to its pharmacists. This group of independent pharmacists have their own banner and distribution center.

With more than 400 locations throughout Quebec and New Brunswick and annual retail sales exceeding a billion dollars, Familiprix Inc. today is a dynamic and innovative company that listens to its clients.

It was in 1977 when pharmaceutical wholesaler Distribution Fraserville in Rivière-du-Loup launched the Médico-Prix pharmaceutical banner, then comprised of a dozen pharmacies located primarily in eastern Québec. In 1980, the banner changed its name to Familiprix.

From the beginning, the banner was successful in eastern Québec. Many independent pharmacist-owners wanted to work together to better compete with the large chains.

In February 1984, Montréal wholesaler Distribution Pharmacies Universelles purchased Distribution Fraserville in Rivière-du-Loup, and with it, the Familiprix banner.

Freson Brothers

Our HISTORY

Our founders, Frank Lovsin and Leo Resek, opened Freson Bros. as a small butcher shop in Hinton, Alberta in 1955. Just one year later, the shop already needed to grow to keep up. The owners soon realized that their commitment to home-grown quality could be expanded well beyond meat. Shelves were soon stocked with Alberta produce and fresh baking. Since that first store opened, Freson Bros. has grown to be a trusted member of Alberta’s communities

TODAY

We have grown a great deal since we opened that first butcher shop in Hinton, but we haven’t forgotten the features that made us a community staple: connecting with family and the comfort of home, supporting our communities, and celebrating our heritage. We’ve stayed true to our values, including fresh, local food, warm hospitality, and traditional approaches – and that will never change. You can find us in 16 communities across Alberta

Colemans

The Coleman Group of Companies is a family owned enterprise. Coleman passion for the business is intense; their quest to maintain and raise standards has energized and grown the company through four generations.

Established in 1934 by Arthur James and Maggie Coleman, the first Coleman Group enterprise was opened in a former school house in Corner Brook on the west coast of Newfoundland and Labrador offering clothing, food and hardware. Business thrived, new sites were opened. Their innovative spirit, still an inspiration to all, brought the first self-service grocery store to Newfoundland. This innovation in grocery retailing in Newfoundland fueled further expansion in the 1960s and 1970s. Colemans entry into the furniture business saw the establishment of Colemans Furniture World.

Major expansion occurred in 1982, when second generation Coleman executives, then leading the thriving company, purchased six retail grocery outlets spanning Newfoundland’s west coast. Insightful understanding of the developing grocery market led to the acquisition of Western Wholesale; the Coleman group could now independently procure, warehouse and distribute to its holdings. Expansion though central to eastern Newfoundland followed.

Today, the Coleman Group includes 14 food, 4 furniture and 3 clothing retail operations throughout Newfoundland along with a wholesale food division. The Food Division, operating under the banner, Colemans, is the largest, fully integrated independent wholesale/retail food operation in Atlantic Canada. We have earned highly valued recognition as a successful competitor not only in the Atlantic Canada marketplace but in the wider national forum, having proudly received the prestigious distinction of being named Canada’s 50 Best Managed Companies by an independent panel of experts for the last 6 consecutive years.
